Methodology
In developing the Energy Skills Intelligence Hub, we have used a consistent methodology and develop consistent outputs for each technology. However, due to differences in the way technologies are deployed and the amount and quality of data available, there are some differences in the approach to calculating jobs.
Where a suitable evidence base was available, job estimates are driven by employer data given to us as part of our collaborative working with industry and other organisations. Other data was obtained from trusted source of publicly available data made available by trade and academic institutions. Conversely, if insufficient data was available, we have developed a model to generate estimates. This model was co-developed and the results accepted by DESNZ.
The projected size and location of energy projects is based on the government planning pipeline and intelligence which we have formulated from industry knowledge and other sources. We update the project planning pipeline regularly reflecting the most likely future scenario, to ensure the workforce forecasts are as reliable as possible given current circumstances. This forecasting in unencumbered by pressure or influence from any source.
The results of the calculators are frequently aligned with other current industry forecasting. Major Industry employers have compared our data with their own estimates and have found a close alignment giving a high confidence that the forecasts are suitable for planning purposes.
