Opergy is delighted to be working with OPITO and ECITB on the cross-sector Energy Skills Intelligence Hub (ESIH), which was officially unveiled at the East of England Energy Group’s (EEEGR) SNS2023 conference.
As the UK moves towards its net zero targets by 2050, identifying, training and transitioning the right people, while developing their skills, is possibly the single largest challenge the energy industry will face. The recently published North Sea Transition Deal (NSTD) People and Skills plan outlined a case for a significant increase in the number of people needed to meet future ambitions and improve skills data and intelligence.
This led to OPITO and ECITB turning to Opergy, given our extensive experience in skills mapping and presence across all energy sectors, to work on developing an Offshore Energy Skills Intelligence Hub.
As the name suggests, this first iteration spans offshore wind, oil and gas, hydrogen and carbon capture, utilisation and storage, though the ambition is that, in future, it could span wider, covering onshore energy and nuclear and the supporting civil engineering infrastructure – essentially, sectors wherein there are transferable skills that could be used in the offshore energy sector. This would ensure a truly cross-sector skills picture.
Leading this work for Opergy has been Associate Director for Employment and Skills, Mark Buckton, who launched the ESIH at the OPITO Skills Panel at SNS 2023 this afternoon, and said:“I am extremely pleased to be supporting Opergy, working with OPITO and ECITB, to provide the intelligence and data needed to demonstrate the future resource and training required for the UK to transition successfully to clean domestic energy.”
